DZ TODAY — Home

Overview

DZ TODAY is a trilingual news platform: a featured-story slider, sections for society, politics, economy and sport, trending stories, search and article pages. Algeria Bot answers questions about the country in English, French, Arabic and Algerian Darija and can list the latest headlines. Articles are served from Supabase through serverless functions.

Objectives

  • Present Algerian news cleanly in three languages
  • Answer common questions about Algeria conversationally

Features

  • Featured slider, category rails and trending list
  • Search, category filters, newest/oldest sorting
  • English, French and Arabic with right-to-left layout
  • Algeria Bot with Darija detection
  • Dark and light themes, newsletter sign-up

Screens

Highlights

Design

  • Dark editorial theme with green accents taken from the flag
  • Large photo-led hero with readable overlay text

Engineering

  • Serverless API for articles, view counts, newsletter and bot
  • The bot's intents are generated into a browser script from the server code, so both always answer the same way

Studio audit

5.0Initial
7.5Final

A polished design that showed only an error without its back end.

Found

  • Without the API the home page showed only "Could not load news"
  • A broken tag printed the word "link" in the page and stopped the web fonts from loading
  • A third-party tracking script
  • 20 MB of photos (1.5–2.2 MB each)
  • Three h1 headings, unlabelled fields, horizontal scrolling on phones

Fixed

  • Labelled offline demo mode with sample features and an in-browser bot
  • Restored the font link
  • Removed tracking
  • Photos resized to about 2 MB in total
  • One h1, labelled fields, no horizontal scrolling on phones

Scored out of 10 on functionality, interface, visual consistency, performance, responsiveness, navigation, architecture, accessibility, error handling and professional readiness.

Demonstration

Interactive demo

The live feed needs the Supabase back end. This demo shows seven clearly labelled sample features (verified facts, not news) and runs Algeria Bot in the browser.
